| Who is an Intermediate? |
Intermediate riders are reasonably comfortable and confident of their ability to negotiate certain types of terrain and are eager to challenge themselves to improve their skills.
- Do you ever feel uneasy when challenged by:
- side hills?
- creek crossings?
- rocky trails?
- deep sand or mud?
- Would you like to know how to simplify log crossings - wet and dry - that are now tricky?
- Have you ever been sucked into a wet or dry rut at speed?
| About the Class |
To ensure you can immediately apply everything you are taught in actual riding situations, 85 percent of this class is taught on trails just like those you will ride in the future. The Intermediate class builds upon the previous class and your existing knowledge to enhance your skills and level of comfort on the trail. One part of the individual attention you will receive is participation in a skill level test which enables us to identify and teach any unmastered lower level skills. This ensures you can personally obtain maximum benefit from the class.

The major topics covered include:
- Participate in a test of your skill level. (We need to know what you already know so you receive the maximum benefits from your investment in the course.)
- Skill development
- Water proofing your ATV for crossing creeks, rivers, etc.
- Shifting with and without a clutch - the why's, when's, and how's (if your machine has a clutch)
- Additional clutch lever techniques for starting out, creek crossings, uphill riding, log jumping and switchbacks
- Up and down hills
- How to turn around on a hill
- When and how to turn out on a hill
- Crossing or avoiding rocks - uphill, downhill, and on a flat
- Basic switchback - the climbing turn - uphill, downhill, right and left turns
- Water crossings - from creeks to rivers
- Slick, dry, and frosted bridges
- Roots (wet and dry - uphill and downhill)
- Ruts (wet and dry - uphill and downhill)
- Side hills (position of ATV and rider; weight distribution)
- Types of soil - what to do as seasons change
- Reading the terrain ahead
- Right and left turns at speed
- Speed (identify your comfort zones)
- Overcoming dangers of cut banks and rocks that may be sticking out
- Turning around in tight quarters
- When to go slow to go fast
- How to tread lightly
Classes are normally limited to ten students.
