| Who is an Expert? |
Experts are advanced riders who have maintained the passion and desire to challenge themselves while riding over a period of time. Although they can negotiate most types of terrain and weather conditions, they desire to be even more comfortable in doing so. These individuals love the sport, constantly try to perfect their existing skills and are excited about their next level of skill development.
Yes, you ride well, but would you like to be able to ride with even greater ease and efficiency?
- Would you like to learn some techniques and tricks that will make your sport even easier, more fun, and safer?
- Do you know what to do when the trail tread goes from 24" to 4" in a blink of an eye?
- Do you know how to find poorly marked trails?
- Have you ever come upon two trees that forgot to measure your handlebars before they grew up?
- Have you ever used too much front brake?
- Do you know when to sit and when to stand while riding?
One part of the individual attention you will receive is to participate in a test of your skill level so you can personally obtain maximum benefit from the class. This allows for individual students to progress at their own rate, making incremental progress at the present level before graduating up to the next one.

To ensure you can immediately apply everything you are taught in actual riding situations, 98 percent of this class is taught on single-track trails similar to those you will ride in the future. Note: you will also be taught any of the lower level skills that you have not yet mastered.

The Expert class builds on the previous classes and your existing knowledge of motorcycle riding in order to enhance your skills and level of comfort on the trail. Expert skills are taught with greater speed at the same time that riders maintain safety for themselves and other visitors to the forest. The major topics covered include:
- Skill development
- Turning around on a narrow (8") trail without dismounting
- Rocks at speed
- Switchbacks
- Climbing turn
- Platform turn
- Reverse switchback
- Fisheye
- For each of the above, you will learn up and down hill approaches as well as left and right turns
- Advanced side hills, including what to do when there is little or no trail tread
- Riding standing up and sitting down while steering with your feet
- How to use weight distribution to your advantage
- Throttle control
- Save your butt by knowing when to brake and when to gas it
- How to hop over that rock or ditch at speed with ease
- Easily negotiate rock faces and outcrops
- How to read the terrain ahead at speed
- Discover what Bill Uhl, the trail designer, has learned about finding lost trails
- How to get your handlebars between trees that are too close together (without stopping your bike)
- How to be gentle with your equipment by riding lightly on your wheels
- How to steer with your rear break
- When to go slow to go fast
- How to tread lightly
Classes are normally limited to ten students.
